My colleague Tom Cosgrove and I worked together for several years in experimental classes designed to turn as much of the learning over to students as possible. Sometimes we overdid it, I’m sure. But in the process we learned a lot about purposeful self-directed learning.

Here are my thoughts as I watched a class of Tom’s that he had coached really well.
